For a very long time, college degrees have been a requirement in very many fields in the job market. Many managers don’t fail to a bachelor’s degree under the qualification. However, time and again, the higher learning institution only equips learners with knowledge but fails to teach relevant skills in the job market. Students spend four years in school and borrow loans to take more than ten years to repay to reach the field and realize they have no skills. Elon Musk argues that despite someone graduating from a great university and seeming capable of great things, that is not always the case. He looks for exceptional ability.
If you don’t have a college degree, it won’t hold you back from working for Tesla, Elon Musk tweeted on Sunday.
Musk is using Twitter to recruit for Tesla’s artificial intelligence team.
“Join AI at Tesla!” Musk tweeted Sunday. The artificial intelligence team “reports directly to me [and] we meet/email/text almost every day.”
What’s more, to work in Tesla’s artificial intelligence department does not require a specific degree.
“A PhD is definitely not required,” Tesla boss Elon Musk said on Twitter on Feb. 2. I “don’t care if you even graduated high school,” Musk said.
Instead, Musk is looking for those with a “deep understanding” of artificial intelligence. And while, ”[e]ducational background is irrelevant,” all candidates “must pass hardcore coding test,” Musk said.CNBC
On the other hand, Google has launched some professional courses that will equip learners with skills that are on-demand in the job market. These courses will take shorter than a degree, six months only, and are at a lower price too. There are also some scholarships in the programs. Google wants to make these certificates equivalent to degrees, and it promises to support in the job search. If you can get the skills you need to get work done for a cheaper fee and a shorter time, what would you need a degree?
These courses, which the company is calling Google Career Certificates, teach foundational skills that can help job-seekers immediately find employment. However, instead of taking years to finish like a traditional university degree, these courses are designed to be completed in about six months.Inc
